Silence is never empty in the magnificent Ian Ricksons production The Seagull, which opened Thursday night at Walter Kerr Theater. Brought to life by a superb ensemble led by Kristin Scott Thoma, frustrated souls of The Seagull are self-revealing speechlessness frozen as they are in frantic flight conversation. When silence descends on a country estate Chekhov restless inhabitants As It Often Does Abrupt And Unbidden the air is alive with crosscurrents of thought clash agreements desire and the constant thrum of time that passes.
